Koderma, Jharkhand – In a dramatic turn of events straight out of a Bollywood movie, a man missing for 15 years suddenly regained his memory upon hearing the word “Mahakumbh.” Just as his family had applied for his death certificate, he was miraculously found, setting the stage for an emotional reunion.
Vanishing Without a Trace
Prakash Mahato, a resident of Kadodih, Markacho, worked for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and struggled with mental health issues. On May 9, 2010, he mysteriously disappeared while traveling to Kolkata. Despite numerous searches and a missing person report filed at Markacho police station, he remained untraceable for over a decade.
A New Life in an Unknown Land
Unbeknownst to his family, Mahato had been living in Raniganj, West Bengal, where a hotel owner, Sumit Sao, had taken him in, offering him shelter and work. Locals affectionately called him “Wrestler.” Mahato worked at the hotel for years, completely unaware of his past.
The Mahakumbh Miracle
The breakthrough came when Sumit and his family were discussing a pilgrimage to Mahakumbh. Upon hearing the word, Mahato insisted that he must attend, claiming that his home was on the pilgrimage route. This sparked curiosity, and after further questioning, he recalled his true identity and hometown.
Sumit immediately contacted local authorities, who informed Markacho police station. On January 7, Mahato’s family rushed to Raniganj and confirmed his identity, leading to an emotional homecoming.
Emotional Reunion & Pending Fate
After 15 years, Mahato, now 52, was finally reunited with his wife Geeta Devi and their children, Sujal (18) and Rani (16), who had only seen their father in old photographs.
Adding to the twist, just 10 days before this reunion, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation had sent a letter regarding outstanding dues, prompting the family to apply for a death certificate. However, the application remains pending due to incomplete documentation.
From Loss to Legacy
As a final heartwarming gesture, Sumit Sao promised to take Mahato and his family to Mahakumbh, the very word that led him back home. A true cinematic tale, this real-life drama proves that sometimes, destiny has its own script!
