Prime Minister Narendra Modi Leads by Example on Republic Day: Picks Up Garbage on Kartavya Path
Amid the celebration of the 76th Republic Day on Kartavya Path, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a powerful example by picking up waste while he went to welcome Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar as the protocol.
As per the protocol, he had to come forward and welcome the Vice President. While the Prime Minister got up and moved towards the gate to welcome him, he saw some waste lying there. He immediately bent down and picked it up. He then tore it into pieces and gave it to his security guards. The gesture not only shows his simplicity but his dedication to the “Swachh Bharat”. The action might be small but this shows how serious Modi is for the cleanliness of the country.

Prime Minister Modi regularly keeps sharing examples of “Swachh Bharat” through his personal life incidents. This time at the Republic Day celebrations again, he led by example and won people’s hearts.
The dream of “Swachh Bharat”:
Modi’s step was particularly significant because he has previously emphasized plogging (waste disposal) and community-led initiatives to make the dream of a Clean India a reality. Last November, he had praised a plogging group that was cleaning the Ganga ghats in Kanpur during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs at the National War Memorial on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day. The Prime Minister laid a wreath at the memorial, offering a tribute on behalf of the nation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed Modi at the National War Memorial.
The Prime Minister also signed the visitor’s book. This prestigious memorial was inaugurated by Modi in 2019. It is dedicated to soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1962 India-China war, the 1947, 1965, and 1971 India-Pakistan wars, during the Indian Peacekeeping Force in Sri Lanka, as well as those who lost their lives in the 1999 Kargil conflict and United Nations peace missions.
