Mumbai witnessed a tragic accident on Wednesday morning when a 30-year-old truck helper was struck on the head by a falling iron rod at a construction site in Andheri (East). The victim, Amar Anand Pagare, also known as Bala, was unloading paver blocks from a truck when the incident occurred.

Pagare had been assisting a Nashik-based truck driver, Anil Kokane, who was resting inside the vehicle at the time. The mishap took place around 11 am at Marol, when the duo arrived to deliver a consignment from Nashik. Workers at the site immediately rushed Pagare to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival due to severe head injuries.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) police have registered a case under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death due to negligence against the site supervisor and other responsible personnel. “The construction site was not following basic safety protocols. There were no protective nets or warning signboards. Pagare lost his life because fundamental safety measures were ignored,” a MIDC officer said. Statements have been recorded from the site supervisor and manager.

This marks the second fatal incident in Mumbai in less than two months. On October 9, 22-year-old Sanskriti Amin, an RBL Bank employee, died in Jogeshwari when a cement block fell from an under-construction building near her residence. Meghwadi Police had registered a case against the builder, manager, and site supervisor in that incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 10) Datta Nalawade confirmed that an FIR has been lodged under Section 106 of the BNS for death caused by negligence against the site developer and those responsible for enforcing safety measures. “The site supervisor and manager have been summoned to provide their statements regarding the incident,” he added.
