Weather Alert in Maharashtra For January 8: Cold Wave Returns, Fog and Temperature Dip Likely Over Next 24 Hours
Maharashtra, December 10, 2025: A severe cold wave is expected to grip Maharashtra over the next two days as icy northern winds move rapidly towards the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned. A yellow alert has been issued for 14 districts, where temperatures are expected to drop sharply, intensifying cold conditions across regions of North Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and parts of Western Maharashtra.
IMD Issues Statewide Cold Wave Warning
According to IMD officials, cold wave conditions will continue on 11 December with several districts likely to experience minimum temperatures much lower than normal. On 10 December, Dhule and Jeur recorded 6°C, marking one of the lowest temperatures this season.
Mumbai Weather: Clear Sky but Dip in Temperature
Mumbai will continue to see cooler-than-usual weather with clear skies and dry conditions on 11 December.
- Maximum Temperature: 32°C
- Minimum Temperature: 15°C
Similar conditions are expected across the Konkan belt.
Western Maharashtra: Pune, Solapur on Alert
Cold wave conditions have intensified in Western Maharashtra, particularly in Pune and surrounding regions.
- Pune: Maximum 29°C, Minimum 7°C
IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pune, including the ghats where the cold is more severe.
Solapur district is also under a cold wave warning.
Marathwada: Temperature Drops to 6°C in Some Areas
Marathwada continues to face biting cold, with several districts reporting steep dips in temperature.
- Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Max 30°C, Min 8°C
Districts including Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, and Latur have reported temperatures falling to 6°C in some pockets. All these districts remain under a yellow alert.
North Maharashtra Records Lowest Temperatures
North Maharashtra has recorded some of the lowest temperatures in the state.
- Nashik: Max 27°C, Min 7°C
Districts such as Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, and surrounding hilly regions are witnessing significant drops in temperature and remain on alert.
Vidarbha: Cold Conditions Continue
Cold conditions persist in Vidarbha, with Gondia placed under a cold wave warning.
- Nagpur: Max 30°C, Min 9°C
In Chikhaldara (Amravati district), temperatures dropped as low as 3°C, marking one of the coldest spots in the region.
Administration Advises Caution
Authorities across Marathwada and other affected regions have urged citizens to take necessary precautions due to the intensified cold wave. The public has been advised to protect vulnerable groups such as children, senior citizens, and those with health issues.
The IMD has also recommended following official guidelines and staying updated with local weather advisories as Maharashtra experiences one of its sharpest winter spikes in recent years.
