Actor says revealing she was on her period while filming ‘Shararat’ became a ‘national joke’, calls for better awareness and sensitivity

Actor Ayesha Khan has spoken out about the trolling she faced after revealing that she was on her period while shooting the song Shararat from the film Dhurandhar. The actor said the comment, which she made casually during an interview, unexpectedly turned into a major topic of online mockery.

Ayesha had earlier shared that she performed and shot the dance sequence despite being on her period, highlighting the effort involved in completing the demanding shoot.

‘It Became A National Joke’

Speaking at the We The Women event, the actor said she was surprised by the reaction her statement received online.

“It’s unfortunate that whatever you do or say these days, everything becomes a joke. Dark humour and fun are everywhere,” she said.

Ayesha explained that she had not intended to make a big issue out of the statement and mentioned it simply because it was part of her experience during the shoot.

“It was a normal interview and I didn’t even realise while sharing it. For me, it was not a big deal. Every month we go through this cycle and continue doing our work,” she said.

Call For Greater Awareness

Reacting to the trolling, Ayesha said the response shows that there is still a need for greater awareness and sensitivity around topics such as menstruation.

She emphasised the importance of educating young people about such issues so that natural biological processes are not treated as something embarrassing or humorous.

About The Song ‘Shararat’

The song Shararat features Ayesha Khan alongside actor Krystle D’Souza and appears in the film Dhurandhar, which stars Ranveer Singh along with R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt.

Set during a wedding celebration sequence in the film, the song portrays the two actors as wedding dancers at a lavish event.

The track was composed by Sashwat Sachdev, sung by Madhubanti Bagchi and Jasmine Sandlas, and choreographed by Vijay Ganguly.

Despite the online trolling, Ayesha said the experience made her reflect on why discussing a normal health issue should generate such a strong reaction in the first place.
