Pune, March 9, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several districts across Maharashtra as temperatures continue to rise across the state.

According to the latest forecast, at least ten districts have been placed under a yellow alert on March 9. These include Palghar, Thane, Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Akola and Amravati.

The warning will remain in effect on March 10 for districts such as Beed, Jalna, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, Parbhani, Akola, Amravati and Wardha. The intensity of the alert is expected to reduce gradually, with only Akola and Amravati likely to remain under warning by March 12.

Temperatures Rise in Pune

Meanwhile, Pune has also recorded a noticeable increase in daytime temperatures in recent days, although the city has not been placed under a heatwave alert.

Data from the Shivajinagar Observatory showed that the maximum temperature on Sunday reached 37.1°C, about 2.5°C above the normal level. At the Lohegaon Weather Station, the temperature climbed to 38.9°C, nearly 4.3°C higher than average.

Vidarbha Records Highest Temperature

Since early March, several regions in Maharashtra have seen a gradual rise in both minimum and maximum temperatures. In the Vidarbha region, the mercury has already crossed 40°C in some areas.

On Sunday, the highest temperature in the state was recorded at 40.9°C in Akola, while the lowest temperature was reported from Nashik at 15.8°C.

Weather Outlook

The city of Pune city is expected to experience clear skies over the next 24 hours. From March 10 onwards, partly cloudy conditions may develop during the afternoon or evening.

Former IMD Pune forecasting division head Anupam Kashyapi said weather conditions across the state may begin to change after March 12. Increased wind interaction could lead to cloud formation and the possibility of light rainfall in isolated parts of Maharashtra.
