Pune, March 23, 2026: A shocking incident in Pune has raised fresh concerns over nighttime safety, after a 75-year-old man was robbed while travelling in an auto-rickshaw in the Wanowrie area.

According to police, the incident took place around 10:30 pm on Friday when the elderly victim was passing through the locality. As the auto reached near Mathurawala Ground, three unidentified youths on a motorcycle intercepted the vehicle, allegedly taking advantage of poor lighting in the area.

The accused reportedly forced the man out of the rickshaw, pushed him, and snatched ₹60,000 in cash before fleeing the scene on their bike. The lack of streetlights in the vicinity is believed to have aided the crime.

The shaken victim later approached the Wanowrie Police Station and filed a complaint.

Police have registered a case against three unknown suspects and launched an investigation. Balasaheb Wakde is leading the probe, with teams reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the accused.

Residents in the area have demanded increased police patrolling, especially at night, as concerns grow over the safety of commuters particularly senior citizens travelling alone.
