Pune Airport Runway Shut After IAF Aircraft Incident; Crew Safe
Pune, April 14, 2026: Pune Airport is set to significantly expand its flight operations after the Indian Air Force approved 15 additional flight slots, easing congestion and improving regional connectivity. With this increase, the total number of daily slots will rise from 220 to 235, enabling the launch of several new routes starting in May.
The move follows sustained efforts by Murlidhar Mohol, whose intervention helped secure these daytime slots. Airport Director Santosh Dhoke expressed optimism, stating that the added flights are expected to accelerate tourism, trade, and regional development.
Among the newly introduced routes, Star Air will operate a service connecting Tirupati via Solapur to Pune starting May 1, with daily operations except Saturdays. Air India will launch a daily direct flight to Bagdogra, a key gateway to Northeast India.
Additionally, Fly 91 will begin daily flights between Mangaluru and Pune, while IndiGo plans to operate services to Patna three times a week starting May 2. New routes to Varanasi and Bengaluru will also be introduced by Akasa Air and Air India Express, respectively.
Further enhancing connectivity, airlines such as SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express will roll out additional services linking Pune with cities including Goa and Chennai.
The expansion is expected to provide travelers with more options and smoother access to major domestic destinations, marking a significant step forward for Pune’s aviation network.
