Customers at a Vasai ATM were left shocked after a technical glitch caused the machine to dispense far more cash than requested, leading to huge crowds and police intervention.

A major technical glitch at a Hitachi ATM in the Golani Naka area of Vasai created chaos on Saturday night after the machine allegedly started dispensing much higher amounts of cash than what customers requested.

According to reports, a customer who attempted to withdraw Rs 100 received Rs 500, while another customer who requested Rs 400 reportedly received Rs 2,000 from the ATM. Surprisingly, only the original requested amount was being debited from customers’ bank accounts.

As news of the unusual malfunction spread rapidly across the locality, large crowds gathered outside the ATM hoping to withdraw extra cash. Several people reportedly rushed to the machine after hearing that the ATM was dispensing nearly five times more money than requested.

The incident quickly turned into a major point of curiosity and discussion across the area. Many customers were left confused and stunned over the unexpected cash withdrawals, unsure whether the transactions were genuine or part of a larger technical failure.

Sensing the possibility of financial irregularities and misuse, local police immediately stepped in and temporarily stopped all ATM transactions. Officers also dispersed the crowd that had gathered outside the machine.

The incident was reported to the concerned bank as well as the technical department. A technical inspection of the ATM is currently underway and officials said services will remain suspended until the machine is completely repaired.

Authorities believe timely intervention by the police and bank officials helped prevent a potentially major financial loss. The exact reason behind the glitch is still being investigated.

The incident once again highlighted how even in the era of digital banking and UPI payments, unexpected technical failures in ATM systems can still create panic and confusion among the public.
