Pune, June 9, 2026: Residents from the NIBM-Undri area have appealed to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to reconsider the proposed opening of the Clover Pinnacle Ridge Road for public use, citing serious safety concerns and alleged violations of the 2016 Urban Street Design Guidelines (USDG).
In a representation submitted to PMC officials, the NIBM Undri Road Residents Forum highlighted several technical issues associated with the road. According to the forum, the road has a steep gradient that makes it unsafe for regular traffic, particularly heavy vehicles. The road reportedly rises by 22 metres and descends by 27 metres, resulting in a gradient ranging between 8% and 12%.
The residents pointed out that the USDG limits road gradients to 5%, and argued that the Clover Pinnacle Ridge Road exceeds these prescribed safety norms. They claimed that the road does not meet the required standards and should not be opened for wider public use without addressing these concerns.

The forum further warned that the steep incline could lead to inefficient or failed braking by larger vehicles. They also expressed concern that the road’s narrow width could contribute to traffic congestion and pose risks to motorists, pedestrians, and nearby residents. Additionally, they noted that the road intersects with Undri Road at a right angle, creating blind spots that could increase the likelihood of accidents.

Residents alleged that PMC is attempting to incorporate older, non-compliant road stretches into the city’s Development Plan under the category of “major links.” While acknowledging the need for improved connectivity in the growing city, they stressed that infrastructure projects should not compromise public safety.
Appealing for a review of the proposal, the residents urged PMC to explore more technically sound alternatives for improving connectivity in the area. The forum stated that while better road networks are necessary, roads should not become potential hazards to life and property, and requested the civic body to give due consideration to the safety concerns raised by local citizens.
