The Pune-Nagpur luxury bus crashed into the rear of a truck on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in the early hours of Sunday, leaving several passengers seriously injured.
A major road accident on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district left 25 passengers injured, including 15 who sustained serious injuries, after a luxury bus travelling from Pune to Nagpur collided with a truck.
The accident took place at around 4.21 am near Mehkar, under the jurisdiction of the Mehkar police station. According to preliminary information, the private luxury bus rammed into the rear of a truck moving ahead of it after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the bus badly damaged and trapping several passengers inside the vehicle. Panic gripped passengers as emergency teams rushed to the scene to begin rescue operations.
Police personnel, local volunteers and rescue teams worked together to safely evacuate those trapped in the wreckage. Ambulances from the 108 emergency service were deployed to transport the injured to medical facilities.
All injured passengers were initially taken to the Rural Hospital in Mehkar for treatment. Some of the injured were later shifted to private hospitals and other healthcare facilities by their relatives for further medical care.
Authorities said the truck involved in the collision fled the scene after the accident. Police have launched a search operation to trace the unidentified vehicle and its driver.
Following the rescue operation, officials used a crane to remove the damaged bus from the expressway and restore the flow of traffic. By around 9 am, all necessary procedures at the accident site had been completed and traffic movement resumed normally.
A police team reached the location after receiving information from the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Control Room and coordinated rescue and relief efforts.
An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident and identify the truck involved in the crash. Authorities are examining all aspects of the incident as part of the ongoing probe.
The Samruddhi Mahamarg, one of Maharashtra’s busiest expressways, has witnessed several serious accidents in recent years, prompting repeated calls for enhanced road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
