Pune: On October 17 (Tuesday), an employee of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) health department was stuck in a lift of the old building of the PMC main office at Shivaji Nagar.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Kamlesh Chaudhari, PMC Kasba Fire Department said, “In the old building of the PMC main office in Shivaji Nagar area, the health department office is on the 3rd floor. The person stuck in the lift is an employee of the PMC. We received the information at 6:18 p.m. that a PMC employee was stuck in the lift. When we reached and inspected, the lift was found to be stuck between the 3rd and 4th floors.”
He further said, “The lift was going above the 3rd floor where there is only the lift room & terrace, nothing else. The employee was rescued successfully &, with the help of other technicians, the lift was repaired & restored to normalcy. The entire operation took around 15 minutes.”
As per further information shared by Kamlesh Chaudhari, in this operation, along with Chaudhari, Fireman Santosh Argade, Assistant Pradeep Pednekar & others were present.
The event has brought major concerns regarding the quality of work done by the contractor in charge of maintaining the lifts.
PMC Bhavan has several lifts. Guidelines state that these lifts must be equipped with fail-safes to guarantee that they don’t stop suddenly and that doors can be opened right away in the event of an emergency.
