A R Rahman experiences transformation after believing in new faith
PUNE: Music composer AR Rahman, previously known as Dilip Kumar, experienced a profound transformation after embracing a new faith. His close collaborator, Sivamani, witnessed this change and shared his observations in an interview.
Sivamani recounted accompanying Rahman and his mother to a sufi saint’s shrine, where they participated in seva (selfless service) while Rahman focused on his studies.
During this period, Rahman’s spiritual journey took precedence, leading to a significant change in his behavior and level of focus. Sivamani noted that Rahman became a more serious and disciplined individual, displaying a strong commitment to his newfound faith.
The studio environment itself took on a spiritual ambiance, with the sound of azaan (Islamic call to prayer) resonating before their sessions began and the aroma of dhoop (incense) filling the air in the evenings. Rahman himself has emphasized the transformative power of his spiritual path, highlighting the sense of peace it has brought him. Furthermore, he has explained his decision to adopt the name AR Rahman, as it better aligns with his self-perception.
