Key Points
- DGCA orders investigation into aircraft engine part found outside Delhi airport
- Part suspected to be from Air India Express flight
- Police and technical teams are involved in determining the origin of metal pieces
Aviation regulator DGCA has initiated an investigation after an aircraft engine part was discovered outside the Delhi airport, sources confirmed on Wednesday. The metal fragment, suspected to be from an Air India Express aircraft that made an emergency landing on Monday, was found near Shankar Vihar. However, the airline has yet to confirm if the part is indeed from their aircraft.
The incident occurred when Air India Express flight IX 145, bound for Bahrain, experienced an engine issue shortly after takeoff from Delhi on September 2. The aircraft managed the failure according to protocol and returned to the airport for a precautionary landing.
Reports of metal debris falling from the sky were made by Shivani Pathak, an Indian Army captain and resident of Vasant Vihar. She reported that metal pieces had fallen at her home after an aircraft flew over the area. The Delhi Police collected the fragments, and a technical team is now working to determine if they came from the same aircraft.
The DGCA and other agencies are actively investigating the incident to uncover the source of the engine part.
