Pune: BVG Life Sciences Limited (BVG), the Pune-based next-generation health and wellness company has partnered with Gujarat Student Startup and Innovation Hub (i-Hub) under the Education Department, Government of Gujarat to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Ayurveda and Herbal Healthcare, under i-Hub’s initiative Mind To Market. Under this partnership, BVG will mentor innovative herbal healthcare projects, and help them commercialise them with incubation support from i-Hub.

Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State, Ministry of AYUSH launched the partnership on 21 Dec 2020 in a virtual event also attended by Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Education Minister, Government of Gujarat and Smt Vibhavariben Dave, MoS, Women & Child Welfare, Education (Primary & Secondary) & Pilgrimages, Government of Gujarat.

Under the partnership, BVG and i-Hub will work together to facilitate, incubate and promote innovations in Ayurveda and Herbal healthcare. This will include things like researching on medicinal plants both within and beyond ancient texts, developing modern format medicines from ancient formulations, developing modern formulations, finding cures to modern day ailments and many others.

H. R. Gaikwad, Chairman & Managing Director, BVG Life Sciences Limited, said, “Ayurveda and Herbal has great potential in sustainable healthcare and in protecting the human body from various modern-day ailments. India already has a rich history of formulations in Ayurveda and herbal. However, these medicines have not been scientifically tested and documented in the format that the modern-day medicines are. Hence, even though their results are exceptional, their acceptability is lesser than the modern-day medicines. We are working to achieve a blend of nature and science. We are thankful to the Government of Gujarat for joining hands with us and we assure that together we will contribute significantly to the health of the world.”

Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of Gujarat, said, “India has a rich history of Ayurveda and herbal, and that has been the core reason why our ancestors lived a long life. Even today we get to see examples in Gujarat, of sadhus and aadivasis, who are living beyond 100 years of age. And they credit their long life to Ayurveda and herbal lifestyle. I urge our Prime Minister that just like how you demonstrated the benefits of Yoga to the world and now the world celebrates Yoga day, similarly we should demonstrate the benefits of Ayurveda and herbal to the world.”

Shri Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Union Minister of State, Ministry of AYUSH, said, “The Ayush medicine system has been used for many years to maintain a healthy lifestyle and curative purposes. Even in the Covid pandemic, Ayush medicines did help in controlling and curing the infections. We believe that the future in healthcare management will be driven more by the Ayush medicinal system. In the last ten months, the demand for medicinal plants from India has increased from across the world. The studies done recently repeatedly suggests there is a definitive improvement in health with Ayush intervention than with modern medicines alone. The announcement by World Health Organisation to set up a Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister is evidence that the Ayush medicine system can make India the pharmacy of the world.”

Anju Sharma, IAS, Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Government of Gujarat & Chairperson i-Hub, stated that in the post-covid-19 world, the importance of preventive healthcare, particularly with Ayurveda and wellness products will grow in consumer mind space. She further stressed that in this scenario this Mind to Market Open Innovation challenge in Ayurveda and Herbal domain will be extremely effective.
