“Dumb War by Orange-Haired Man” Forces Price Hikes: Pune Eatery’s Witty Notice Goes Viral
LPG cylinders across India are becoming increasingly expensive, and small eateries are struggling to keep up with rising costs. Among the many businesses affected, one restaurant in Pune has grabbed attention for its humorously blunt notice linking global events to domestic price hikes. The note, which went viral on social media, directly references the “dumb orange-haired man” as the cause behind international tensions driving up fuel and cooking costs.
The notice read, “Due to a recent war started by a dumb orange-haired man, prices of crude oil have increased, resulting in higher prices of LPG and plastic. Hence, new rates will be effective from 21st March. Kindly cooperate or help stop the war.” The clever wording sparked amusement across the internet, with users appreciating the restaurant owner’s ability to address a serious issue with a dose of satire.
Many social media users joined in on the humor. One mentioned that even auto-rickshaw drivers in their area had raised fares citing increased fuel prices, while another joked that situations like this often provide a perfect excuse for permanent price hikes. Others applauded the witty “Puneri” approach, calling it a uniquely local style of handling such challenges.
The underlying issue, however, is serious. Restaurants, small cafes, and street vendors across India are grappling with rising LPG prices, which directly affect cooking and packaging costs. With inflation already pushing up raw materials, transportation, and other operational expenses, businesses are being forced to adjust their menus or increase prices. Smaller establishments, in particular, find the rising cost of commercial LPG cylinders to be a significant burden, often making price hikes unavoidable.
The LPG shortage has also hit students staying in paying guest (PG) accommodations and hostels. Many messes and small eateries have either shut down or hiked meal prices sharply. According to a local news outlet, Rohit Kumar, a nursing student, said, “I have been staying in Pune for four years in a PG. I depend entirely on messes and canteens. Earlier, a full rice plate cost Rs 60-70; now it has shot up to Rs 100.”

The Pune-based eatery’s notice humorously trolled former US President Donald Trump for “starting” the war in West Asia, indirectly highlighting how global conflicts ripple into local businesses’ everyday expenses. While the humor has struck a chord online, it also reflects the growing challenges faced by food vendors nationwide.
