The Pune District and Sessions Court is set for an expansion with a 15,000 square feet space allocated in the new multi-modal hub being built at the Shivajinagar government warehouse site. The government has tentatively approved a budget of ₹15.04 crore for this construction.

This development follows a meeting held on February 6, 2015, between the then Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and the then Chief Minister, where the expansion of the district and sessions court was discussed. The decision was made to utilize the warehouse site adjacent to the court for this expansion. Initially under the jurisdiction of the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department, the land was later transferred to the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation.

On June 24, 2017, a meeting with Supreme Court Justice Abhay Oka and Metro officials resulted in an agreement to provide 15,000 square feet, including parking, within the metro’s multi-modal hub for the district court. Metro officials also specified that either ₹15 crore or the market value of the land should be paid during the transfer. Accordingly, the government has been instructed to submit the construction plan and map to the High Court. Following the land transfer, the district court will need to complete the process of registering the land through the district collector and meet other stipulated conditions.

The new space will allow for additional construction at the district court. The court and its lawyers are expected to make a formal request to the High Court regarding the use of this space. The Pune Bar Association (PBA) will follow up on this matter.
