Pune, February 10, 2025 – Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the weather forecasting division at the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune, has launched a Senior Citizens’ Association aimed at educating society on weather and climate change. The association will officially commence its activities with a gathering on February 16.

Dr. Kashyapi emphasized the importance of utilizing the scientific expertise of retired professionals to benefit society. He stated, “We are not accustomed to staying idle after retirement. With our years of experience in meteorology, we can contribute by spreading awareness about climate change and its impact. Our goal is to educate students and the public at various levels—village, city, and state—by offering hands-on experiences in the field of weather and climate.”

Inspiration Behind the Initiative

Explaining the motivation behind this endeavor, Dr. Kashyapi shared that post-retirement, he and his former colleagues found themselves with ample free time and a desire to stay engaged. Recognizing their collective expertise in meteorology, they decided to form an association that could serve as a knowledge hub while also providing a sense of purpose for senior citizens.
