From Local Milk Vendor to ‘Milk King’: This Entrepreneur Now Delivers 36 Lakh Litres Daily, Challenging Amul
Success in any business is built on hard work, commitment, and an unwavering drive to achieve excellence. Every flourishing company often has a story of humble beginnings, overcoming numerous obstacles, and a vision that never falters. Paras Milk is a prime example of this journey, where steady progress has led to remarkable success. Starting out modestly in the streets of Delhi, the company has expanded into a reputable brand, now serving millions of homes daily and competing with major players in the industry.
Paras Milk, a leading dairy company in India, has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Founded by Ved Ram Nagar, who started his career as a small milk seller in Delhi, Paras Milk now delivers milk and dairy products to millions of households daily. Nagar’s vision and dedication were instrumental in transforming a small-scale operation into a prominent brand, competing with industry giants like Mother Dairy and Amul.
Nagar’s journey began with the sale of just 60 liters of milk per day. Recognizing the potential for a larger-scale business, he focused on processing and distribution, establishing his first firm in 1980. His commitment to quality and customer satisfaction led to the establishment of a milk processing unit in 1984, followed by the formation of V.R.S. Foods in 1986, which eventually evolved into Paras Milk.
Paras Milk’s expansion and growth continued at a rapid pace throughout the 1990s. The establishment of a major milk plant in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad in 1987 marked a turning point, enabling the company to significantly increase its processing and distribution capacity. This was followed by another large plant in Gulaothi in 1992, further accelerating the business and solidifying Paras Milk’s reputation as a reliable dairy brand.
Ved Ram Nagar’s company, initially operating in Delhi-NCR, expanded its reach to Gwalior in 2004 with a new milk plant. This opened up new markets across India. Unfortunately, Nagar passed away in 2005, leaving his sons to manage the business. In 2008, the company was rebranded as ‘Vedram and Sons Private Limited’, strengthening its position under the Paras brand and adding more milk products.
The company has since diversified beyond dairy, moving into sectors like healthcare, real estate, education, and pharmaceuticals, creating new revenue sources and becoming a large business group. The Nagar family remains involved in politics and social work, with one son, Surendra Singh Nagar, serving as a Rajya Sabha MP. They also support social causes through the Chaudhary Ved Ram Charitable Trust, focusing on education and health.
Paras Milk has grown significantly, now reaching across many states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh, directly connecting with 5,400 villages. This network benefits thousands of farmers involved in dairy production and animal husbandry, as Paras Milk not only purchases milk but also provides financial assistance. Currently, Paras Milk sells approximately 3.6 million liters of milk daily, maintaining a strong presence in Delhi-NCR and other major cities. The company has expanded its product line to include ghee, butter, cheese, curd, and flavored milk, which are becoming popular with consumers.
The story of Paras Milk is not just about milk—it’s about the perseverance and innovative spirit of its founder, Ved Ram Nagar, who turned a small milk-selling business into an iconic dairy company. The journey of Paras Milk exemplifies the power of hard work, vision, and determination to transform dreams into reality.
