Heavy traffic congestion is being reported along the Mumbai-Goa Highway as thousands of people travel to their hometowns in the Konkan region to celebrate Ganeshotsav 2024. Vehicle queues extending 5 to 7 kilometers have been observed, particularly near Lonere village, causing long delays for commuters.

Residents of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and nearby areas have started their journeys, leading to significant traffic jams, with some travelers stuck for over an hour in the same spot. The rush began on Wednesday night as many Konkan natives working in Mumbai set out for their villages to join the festivities.

Raigad Police Efforts to Manage Traffic:
The Raigad Police are actively working to control and manage the situation on the highway. They have increased the deployment of officers at critical points where traffic bottlenecks are most severe.

To aid in monitoring and alleviating congestion, drones are being used to oversee the traffic flow. In addition, heavy vehicles have been temporarily restricted from the route, and ST buses are stopping outside city limits to reduce roadblock issues.

Given the large number of devotees heading to their hometowns in the coming days, traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway and other key routes is expected to remain heavy throughout the festival. Drivers are encouraged to stay informed about traffic updates and plan their trips accordingly.
