For many students in India, getting into an IIT is a dream and a significant achievement to boast about. However, when one IIT graduate tried to show off in a playful manner, they faced backlash on social media for being ‘cringy.’

In a Reddit group that often shares memes about JEE and NEET, a user posted a picture of a car stuck in traffic. The car had a sticker on the side that read, “You are chasing an IITian, but that’s okay. We’re used to it.” After the sticker was shared, many users reacted, with most expressing embarrassment over the car owner’s behavior. Others criticized the individual for making IIT their entire identity.

“This is giving so much second-hand embarrassment,” read one comment, while another user said,”Even when a Harvard graduate introduces himself without saying Harvard, he says, “I went to a school in Boston.”

Users also noted that the boldness of the message on the stickers didn’t quite fit the type of car he was driving.”IITian hoke bas innova? Kidhar hai Audi aur BMW aur Lambo?,” remarked one user.

“Super Cringe. Only low keys flex like that, for god’s sake plz say it’s edited.” said another Reddit user.

An IIT graduate also commented on the post, expressing his discomfort with such stickers. He mentioned, “I’ve honestly stopped sharing where I study because of these foolish people.”

Another user shared, “It’s hard for IITians not to let IIT define their entire identity. My uncle even included IIT next to his son’s name on his daughter’s wedding invitation.”
