In a recent heartwarming interaction, Rahul Gandhi visited “Classic Hair Salon” in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, engaging in a candid conversation with Ajit, a local barber. Mr. Gandhi, in his familiar white T-shirt, shared a video of the visit on X, showcasing a personal side of his outreach to understand the everyday struggles of India’s working class.

During the visit, Ajit opened up about the financial challenges he faces. Earning around ₹14,000-₹15,000 a month, Ajit explained that rent takes up a significant portion of his income. With his shop and home both on rent, Ajit’s concerns extended beyond finances, as he revealed that his wife is a heart patient and expressed worries about his children’s future.

Rahul Gandhi, listening intently, empathized with Ajit’s worries, sharing a reassuring moment when he noticed the barber’s hands trembling. “You’re taking too much tension,” Gandhi said, to which Ajit replied, “What do I do, sir?”

Ajit, who is physically challenged, expressed that he once had high hopes for his future, hoping hard work would lead to a brighter life. He reminisced about a time when he felt secure under Congress’ governance, noting, “There was peace during Congress’ rule.” Moved by the visit, Ajit’s gratitude was clear, and the two shared an emotional hug.

In the video’s caption on X, Mr. Gandhi wrote, “‘There is nothing left!’ These four words of Ajit Bhai and his tears are telling the story of every hard-working poor and middle-class person of India today.” He emphasized that today’s challenges—declining incomes, inflation, and lack of opportunity—are taking a toll on everyday workers’ dreams of achieving basic stability. Mr. Gandhi called for new, modern solutions to help India’s skilled workers gain upward mobility in society.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Delhi barber is one of many such interactions. Known for meeting individuals from diverse backgrounds, Gandhi has previously spoken with cobblers, mechanics, construction workers, and truck drivers to better understand their challenges. His engagement with people across India has occasionally included gestures of support, such as his visit to a barber in Rae Bareli in May, where he later gifted new salon equipment to help improve the shop.

This series of interactions underscores Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to connect with the everyday struggles of India’s working class, advocating for policies that address their needs and support a more equitable society.
