Major Fire Breaks Out At Bandra Kurla Complex Metro Station, Services Halted
Mumbai, November 15, 2024 – Services at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) metro station on Mumbai Metro Line 3 were temporarily suspended on Friday after a fire erupted outside Entry/Exit A4. The fire caused smoke to infiltrate the station, prompting safety measures and a temporary halt in operations. Commuters were directed to Bandra Colony station as an alternative.
The fire, reported around 1:10 PM, involved wooden materials, furniture, and construction supplies located 40–50 feet below ground. Eight fire engines were dispatched to control the situation, and no injuries were reported. Officials from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) were present at the site to monitor the response.
With an eye on the assembly polls, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Phase 1 of the BKC-to-Aarey stretch of Mumbai Metro Line 3.

Metro Line 3, connecting Bandra-Kurla Complex to Aarey, began operations in October and is Mumbai’s first underground metro corridor. However, it has faced challenges, including technical issues and disruptions. In October, heavy rains caused waterlogging at Kalina station, while train delays during the first week of operations frustrated commuters.
Friday’s incident underscores the need for enhanced safety protocols as the city adjusts to this new transit system. Authorities assured passengers that services would resume once safety conditions are verified.
