Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a tough season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, ending with a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which dashed their playoff hopes. CSK, the five-time champions, struggled this season under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. MS Dhoni played mostly as a lower-order batsman, finishing matches when he could.

There has been much talk about Dhoni’s future in the IPL. While no official announcement has been made, Dhoni was spotted taking a bike ride around Ranchi, and videos of this have been shared widely on social media.

In their final game, Dhoni was at the crease with the match in a delicate position but got out trying to hit a big shot off Yash Dayal’s bowling. Former India player Aakash Chopra commented on this, saying, “If Dhoni had remained not out, CSK would have won the game.”

Chopra added on his YouTube channel, “Dhoni, along with Ravindra Jadeja, kept the hopes alive. He even hit the longest six of this season, measuring 110 meters, and two fours on the leg side. If he hadn’t gotten out, he would have led CSK to the playoffs.”

Chopra further mentioned that it didn’t seem possible for CSK to win at one point, but Dhoni and Jadeja’s efforts brought them close. “Jadeja was hitting sixes at the start of every over. However, Yash Dayal bowled well in the final over, needing just 17 runs to win. RCB ended up winning by a comfortable margin and moved forward in the tournament,” he concluded.
