MS Dhoni is among the most well-known cricketers worldwide, as evidenced by the number of brand endorsements he secured in the first half of 2024. According to data from TAM Media Research, a collaboration between Nielsen in the USA and Kantar in the UK, Dhoni’s brand endorsements increased significantly compared to the previous year, rising from 32 deals in January-June 2023 to 42 in the same period this year.

Dhoni also has more brand endorsements than Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, who has 41, and Shahrukh Khan, who ranks third with 34. Other athletes in the top 10 include Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, with Kohli at the 10th spot with 21 endorsements and Ganguly just above him with 24. Notably, Kohli’s endorsements have dropped from 29 in the same timeframe last year.

According to TAM Media Research, the figures only include brands and commercial ads, excluding promos and social media ads. MS Dhoni has surpassed Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan to secure the top position in brand endorsements.

Both Dhoni and Kohli were kept by CSK and RCB before the IPL mega auction held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in August 2020, was retained by CSK as an uncapped player for ₹4 crore. Kohli, meanwhile, was RCB’s most expensive retention at ₹21 crore.
