The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has canceled the appointments of executive engineers who were overseeing the tender process for the Pune Ring Road project. This decision comes amid pressures to ensure transparency and accelerate progress on the initiative aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The ring road project, divided into nine phases, has faced challenges as the tenders submitted were 40 to 45 percent higher than the estimated costs. This significant overestimation has compounded MSRDC’s difficulties in managing the project efficiently.

To streamline the process, six executive engineers were initially appointed, each responsible for different packages of the project. However, these appointments were made without the necessary authorization from senior officials in the Pune division. Recognizing this oversight, the Vice President and Managing Director ordered the cancellation of these appointments. A letter from General Manager Satish Bharatiya to the Chief Engineer, confirming the cancellation, was received earlier today.

Further investigations revealed that the appointed executive engineers had shown negligence in managing the tender process, contributing to the inflated tender rates. Reliable sources indicate that this negligence prompted the cancellation orders. Consequently, MSRDC now faces increased challenges in moving forward with the ring road project due to the inflated tender rates.
