New bridge over Mula river between Sangvi Bopodi set to ease traffic between Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad
Pimpri, 14 July 2024 :- The much-anticipated construction of a new bridge over the Mula River, connecting Sangvi and Bopodi, is nearing its final stages. The project, a joint effort by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), aims to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in key areas.
Commenced on January 31, 2022, the bridge project originally had a 24-month timeline. However, delays in securing the necessary land from the National Agricultural Research Center Rahuri have extended the completion date to August 31, 2024. Despite these challenges, the project is now 90% complete.
The bridge, costing Rs 32.36 crores, spans 125-meters across the river and includes five spans of 25 meters each. It features four lanes and footpaths on both sides, with a total width of 18 meters. The approach roads measure 540 meters on the Pune side and 95 meters on the Pimpri Chinchwad side. This infrastructure will connect the Sangvi and Bopodi areas more efficiently, significantly reducing traffic bottlenecks at Bremen Chowk, Aundh-Ravet Road, and Khadki Road.
PCMC Chief Engineer Shrikant Sawane said, “This bridge is a vital development for our city. It will not only ease traffic but also enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents of both Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. We are committed to ensuring its timely completion and opening it to the public soon.”
