Not happy with your Instagram recommendations? Here’s how the new ‘Reset Recommendations’ feature can help!
Instagram is testing a new feature called ‘Reset Recommendations’ to give users a fresh start with their content suggestions. The feature is designed to provide a safer and more personalized experience, especially for teenagers.
Users will soon be able to reset recommendations on Explore, Reels, and Feed with just a few taps. This feature allows users to clear their current preferences and start anew. Over time, Instagram will refine the suggestions again based on new interactions.
The feature also lets users review and unfollow accounts that no longer match their interests. It enhances existing recommendation tools like marking content as ‘Interested’ or ‘Not Interested’ and the Hidden Words option to block specific terms. Users can customize their Explore page by selecting ‘Interested’ or ‘Not Interested’ on posts.
Teens in some countries already have tools to select topics of interest, such as sports or cooking. Instagram is also expanding its Transparency Center to explain how it ensures age-appropriate content for teenagers. Measures include tools to manage digital footprints, restrict exposure to sensitive material, and use features like the ‘Following Feed’ for chronological posts and ‘Close Friends’ for managing story viewers.
The Reset Recommendations feature will not alter ad topics or delete data. Instead, it offers users a chance to see new suggestions while maintaining personalized experiences in other areas. Instagram clarified that resets are irreversible but noted that preferences will adapt as users interact with new content.
The global rollout of this feature is expected soon. Instagram aims to provide more control to users over what they see, making the platform safer and more enjoyable for all.
