Nuankhai Bhetghat 2024 event was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Kalpatru Hall, University Road, Pune, last Sunday 15 September. Dressed in colorful traditional Sambalpuri clothes, the residents of Odisha gathered and celebrated Nuankhai with a lot of joy and happiness. 

Nuankhai is one of the most important and culturally rich agrarian festivals in western Odisha, celebrated with great fervor and devotion; has its roots in the agricultural traditions of western Odisha. It reflects the deep bond that the people of this region share with their land, nature, and crops. Nuankhai means eating the new crop together.

At 10 am, the event was initiated by worshiping Goddess Maa Samaleshwari, offering new grains brought from Odisha and bhajan by the ladies. People exchanged warm greetings among them, and guests were honored. The festival hosted traditional dance, songs and music by children and adults. The beats of pancha badya such as Dhol, Nishan, Tasa, Muhuri, flute by Runu Jhunu Kalaparishad, Balangir created a wonderful atmosphere. Prachi Panigrahi, performed special  folk dances during the event. The audience also danced and immersed themselves in the rhythms of Sambalpuri music.

Breakfast included biri bara, ghuguni, and tea. Authentic Odia food items kheeri, puri, rasgola, kardi letha, rice, kankodo bhaja, rice, dal, potal kasa stimulated the taste buds of the public during lunch. 

Pune is the second city after New Delhi to celebrate Nuankhai outside Odisha, celebrating the festival since 2007. The organizers Nibedita, Bandita, Narendra, Umakanta, Benudhar, Swadhin, 

Naren, Pratyush, Krishna, Shibashis, Rabi, Dilip and Saroj conducted the event smoothly.

The audience lauded for the success of this momentous event of the year, which binds them in a bond of love, friendship, & brotherhood; expressed desire to celebrate various festivals of Odisha in the coming days.
