In a bid to improve the road network in merged areas, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has commenced construction of nine roads in Punawale, Wakad, Kiwale, Ravet, and Tathawade. These roads, approved before the model code of conduct was implemented in the state, are expected to enhance the road network by over 75% in these areas.

The new roads will address long-standing issues of narrow and poor road conditions, which have been causing traffic congestion and accidents. Many IT professionals residing in these areas, which provide better connectivity to Hinjawadi IT Park, have been complaining about the poor condition of roads.

Residents from Punawale are hopeful that the new roads will solve issues like waterlogging, which worsened during the recent monsoon. “The proposed plan by PCMC covers almost 80% of the road network in my area.”

There is a need for proper speed breakers on the new roads to prevent frequent accidents. The municipal corporation should ensure that stormwater and drainage lines are connected to housing societies and residential structures.

The merged areas of Punawale, Wakad, Kiwale, Ravet, and Tathawade, which were incorporated into PCMC years ago but have been lacking proper road networks and facilities. Despite this, these areas remain among the fastest-growing in Pimpri Chinchwad.
