PCMC Plans Public Shaming Of Property Tax Defaulters With Bands At Their Doorstep
In a unique move to recover outstanding property taxes, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to play bands on the doorstep of tax defaulters. This unusual tactic aims to shame defaulters into paying their dues. The PCMC has identified big defaulters, including private institutions, schools, colleges, hotels, private hospitals, petrol pumps, and industrial factories, who owe a significant amount of property tax. Despite repeated appeals and notices, these defaulters have failed to pay their taxes.
As part of its crackdown on tax defaulters, the PCMC will play bands on the doorstep of these defaulters to publicly shame them. This move is expected to put pressure on defaulters to pay their taxes and avoid public embarrassment.
The PCMC’s tax collection department has sealed off 418 properties with outstanding tax of Rs. 11 crore 37 lakh 23 thousand 198. Additionally, 36,980 property owners in 651 societies still owe tax of Rs 69 crore 56 lakh.
The PCMC’s decision to play bands on the doorstep of tax defaulters is seen as a last resort to recover outstanding taxes. With this move, the PCMC aims to send a strong message to tax defaulters and encourage them to pay their dues.
