Pune: 20-Year-Old Woman Dies After Slipping from Rajgad Fort, Falls 150 Feet into Gorge During Visit with Husband
Pune: A 20-year-old woman who had come to Rajgad Fort for sightseeing with her husband met with a tragic end after slipping from the Balekilla and falling into a 150-foot-deep gorge.
The incident took place around 5:30 pm on Thursday. The woman, identified as Komal Satish Shinde, a resident of Alandi, was immediately rushed to the Velhe Rural Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead before treatment could begin.
According to police reports, Komal and her husband were descending after visiting the Balekilla — the highest and most prominent part of the historic fort — when she lost her footing and fell into the gorge.
Following the fall, a rescue team from the disaster management unit helped bring her body down from the fort. Police have registered a case of accidental death.
Locals Raise Safety Concerns
The tragic incident has sparked outrage among locals, who allege that safety measures at Rajgad Fort, especially around the Balekilla, are grossly inadequate. They pointed out that the spot is a major tourist attraction and often crowded, yet lacks basic protective infrastructure, which they claim has led to repeated accidents.
Locals have demanded immediate action from authorities to implement proper safety measures and prevent further loss of life at the popular heritage site.
