Pune: Case Filed For Flouting Norms, Residents Raised High Noise Pollution From Bavdhan’s High Profile Birthday Celebration

Over 100 residents from Bavdhan complained at the Bavdhan Police Station about the high noise that was observed from a High profile birthday celebration on December 8 night till December 9 morning. 

 The event, which took place on a private plot near the National Defence Academy (NDA), featured loud music that disturbed the entire area, with the noise being audible up to 3-4 kilometers away. A case was filed against the organiser of the birthday celebration Adinath Sambhaji Mate on December 8, 2024 9.30 PM to December 9, 2.30 AM which was held at Kokate vasti, Bavdhan, Pune. The birthday celebration saw huge loud speakers, LED lights which caused severe inconvenience to the residents of Bavdhan, Pashan and other adjoining areas. The celebration flouted the norms, hence a case was filed under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita 292 and 293, Under rule 3(1) and 4(1)) of Noise Pollution (Control and Regulation) Rules, Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, Maharashtra Police Act 33 R 131 against Adinath Sambhaji Mate.

The party, which started at 8 PM, continued until 5:30 AM, with the sound system remaining on until 9 AM. Citizens of Bavdhan and nearby areas, including Baner, Pashan, and others, were affected by the noise pollution, with many reporting sleepless nights and health issues.

Despite receiving multiple complaints, the police were initially unresponsive, with one citizen claiming that the police were “incapable of taking action because influential people were involved.”

However, after over 100 citizens gathered at the Bavdhan Police Station to demand action, the police have initiated proceedings against the organizers and performers, including Shankar Mahadevan and his son Shivam and many other singers who performed in the programme.

Baner police station officials confirmed that action for sound pollution was initiated in the morning, and statements have been taken. A complaint was registered under the relevant sections of The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules of 2000.
