Pune, April 13, 2026: The Crime Branch Unit 7 of Pune Police carried out a major crackdown against illegal country liquor manufacturing, dismantling an illicit distillation unit in the Wagholi police station limits.

Acting on a tip-off received on April 11, 2026, Police Constable Hrishikesh Takawane was informed that an individual was operating an illegal country liquor brewing setup near Handgar Vasti, Bhavdi village in Haveli taluka. Following the information, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonawane and Assistant Police Inspector Madan Kamble conducted a raid at the location.

During the operation, the team seized approximately 5,600 litres of raw material used for brewing illicit liquor, valued at ₹1.96 lakh, along with firewood worth ₹4,000. The total value of the seized material stands at ₹2 lakh.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the accused, identified as Guddaavat, a resident of Bhavdi in Haveli taluka (full details yet to be confirmed), was involved in the illegal activity. The distillation setup was destroyed using a JCB machine.

A case has been registered at Wagholi Police Station under Crime Register No. 251/2026, under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Further investigation is underway.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pankaj Deshmukh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingale, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime-2) Rajendra Mulik, along with the Crime Branch Unit 7 team.
