Pune, October 30, 2024: In a major breakthrough, the Deccan Police Station’s Cyber Squad has retrieved 30 stolen mobile phones valued at ₹5.5 lakh, leveraging the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system. This advanced tracking tool from the Department of Telecommunications enabled officers to deactivate and track down the stolen devices, contributing significantly to the investigation’s success.
The operation, led by Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar and Crime Inspector Prasad Raut, alongside constables Uma Palve, Saroja Devar, and Supriya Sonawane, saw the Cyber Squad monitoring phone numbers flagged as active after being reported stolen. Their data-driven efforts culminated in recovering the devices across multiple districts within a month.
The CEIR system has proven highly effective, allowing victims to report missing devices for quick deactivation, aiding police in tracing stolen phones efficiently across India. The Deccan Police’s proactive use of this technology highlights an effective approach to combating mobile theft and enhancing public safety.
In another recent operation, Chandan Nagar Police arrested suspects tied to a gang from Mumbai and Hyderabad, who allegedly stole 36 phones during a concert in Kharadi, Pune, marking a growing trend in organized mobile theft.
