Pune: Fake Foreign CEO On Shaadi.com Cons Victim Of ₹3.16 Crore; Pimpri Chinchwad Cyber Police Launch Investigation
Pune, June 11, 2025 — The Pimpri Chinchwad Cyber Crime Police have filed a case involving a massive fraud amounting to ₹3.16 crore, allegedly orchestrated through a fake profile on Shaadi.com, impersonating a foreign investor.
According to officials, the victim was lured by a person claiming to be a CEO of Duckpro Mining LLC, based in Anchorage, Alaska, USA. The accused, using the Shaadi.com platform, built trust with the complainant and promised to send high-value gifts and investment-related benefits to India.
As part of the scam, the fraudster claimed that the shipments had been held at customs and demanded payment of various charges such as customs clearance, GST, security deposits, and penalties. The victim made multiple payments between July 10, 2023, and September 9, 2024, totaling ₹3.16 crore through various online transfers to multiple fake bank accounts under the name FXE Capitals Bank and other aliases.
The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Information Technology Act, 2008, including Sections 66(C) and 66(D), along with Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), for cheating and identity fraud.
The cyber crime team is investigating all digital trails, including bank account details, transaction records, and the IP addresses used in the fraud. Authorities have also identified key suspects and have begun efforts to trace them.
The Pune Cyber Cell has urged citizens to stay alert when communicating on matrimonial and dating platforms, especially with individuals claiming to be foreign nationals offering financial incentives or expensive gifts.
