Pune: Ganesh Mandals Urged to Obtain Authorized Electricity Connections; Special Emergency Contact Number for 10 Days
Pune, September 03, 2024: This year, during the Ganesh Festival, public mandals are being provided with temporary new electricity connections without delay by Mahavitaran. Electricity is being supplied at domestic rates for festivals of all religions. Therefore, Mahavitaran has urged public Ganesh Utsav mandals to officially obtain temporary electricity connections.
To avoid potential hazards such as short circuits in pandals and electrical wiring faults during the Ganesh festival, all Ganesh Utsav mandal officials are advised to note down the mobile numbers of the engineers and staff of Mahavitaran in their respective areas. In case of an emergency, a special contact number, 7875767123, has been made available for the ten days of the festival for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city, Ambegaon, Junnar, Maval, Khed, Mulshi, Velhe, and Haveli talukas. Additionally, the usual toll-free numbers 1912, 18002123435, or 18002333435 can also be used for contact.
Given the likelihood of rain during the Ganesh festival, mandals are advised to take proper care of the electrical system to prevent possible hazards. The setup of the electrical system and lights in the pandals should be done exclusively by authorized electrical contractors. Ensure that the earthing of the electrical system in the Ganesh Utsav pandals is in good condition. If the insulation of internal wires is damaged, electricity could flow through the iron sheets or wet objects in the pandal. To prevent this, remove faulty wire connections or use insulation tape of appropriate capacity when making connections. Ensure that a plywood or wooden board is installed behind the switchboard. Precautions should be taken to ensure that low and high voltage lines, transformers, feeder pillars, and other systems are not touched by festival decorations or processions.
If Ganesh mandals use unauthorized electricity, action will be taken under the Indian Electricity Act 2003. During the Ganesh festival, it is essential to use a separate neutral for electricity supply and generators. If the generator is started while the power supply is off for any reason, the electricity from the generator can flow into the low voltage line through the same neutral, posing a risk of fatal accidents. Mahavitaran has urged daily inspections to ensure that wires from the lighting system in the pandals and those installed in public places are not hanging low or becoming dislodged due to continuous rain and strong winds.
