Pune: Heavy Vehicles Banned On Bhumkar And Control Chowk On Sinhagad Road Near Narhe To Ease Congestion During Peak Hours
Pune: January 11, 2025
The Bhukum Chowk Underpass area, now part of Pune Municipal Corporation limits due to recent boundary expansions, has seen a significant rise in residential developments, including homes and societies. Additionally, the area has a bustling industrial zone, leading to frequent movement of heavy vehicles, especially between Bhumkar chowk and Control Chowk.
With schools, colleges, and hospitals located along this route, traffic congestion during peak hours has become a pressing issue. The narrow roads in the area exacerbate the situation, often causing severe traffic jams due to the heavy vehicle movement. Repeated complaints and media coverage have highlighted the inconvenience faced by local residents.
In response, Amol Zhende, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pune City, has issued new traffic regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act (Sections 115, 116(1)(a)(b), 116(4), and 117), as per the Maharashtra Government’s notification dated September 27, 1996.
Key Order Highlights:
- Restricted Area:Â From Bhumkar Chowk Underpass to Shri Control Chowk and connecting internal roads.
- Prohibited Vehicles:Â All types of heavy, slow-moving, and oversized vehicles, excluding emergency services like fire brigade, police, and ambulances.
- Restricted Timings:Â 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
- Ban on Parking:Â Parking of heavy vehicles during restricted hours is strictly prohibited.
These measures aim to reduce congestion, ensure smoother traffic flow, and enhance safety for residents in the area.
