Pune Municipal Corporation To Auction Fire Cracker Stalls Online This Year TooÂ
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to continue with online auctions for renting out space for firecracker stalls this Diwali season, despite pressure from local leaders to revert to offline auctions. Last year’s online auction proved to be a huge success, generating Rs 85 lakh in revenue, with one stall fetching Rs 2 lakh, eight times its reserved price.
The PMC has identified 13 locations across nine regional offices for setting up 194 firecracker stalls. These locations include Vartak Bagh, Kondhwa-Yevlewadi, Hadapsar Mundhwa, Yerwada Kalas Dhanori, Kothrud Bavdhan, Dhankawadi Sahakarnagar, Sinhagad Road, Nagar Road Vadgaon Sheri, Aundh Baner, and Warje Karvenagar.
In Vartak Bagh, 35 shops will be rented out with a reserved price of Rs 25,155. Other locations will also have stalls rented out, with prices starting from the reserved amount. The PMC expects to generate Rs 16.54 lakh in revenue from this year’s online auction.
The online auction system was introduced to prevent monopolization and bullying by local leaders, which had plagued offline auctions in the past. “Neither offline auction nor bully bids are allowed by local leaders,” a PMC official said. By sticking to online auctions, the PMC aims to ensure a fair and transparent process, providing equal opportunities to all bidders.
This move is seen as a significant step towards reducing the influence of local leaders and promoting a more competitive market. The PMC’s decision to continue with online auctions is a bold move, defying pressure from local leaders who had benefited from the old system.
The online bidding process has made it difficult for politically motivated traders to manipulate the system. As a result, they had pressured the administration to stop online bidding this year. However, the PMC has rejected this demand, ensuring a fair and transparent process for all.
