Pune Municipal Corporation’s Innovative Initiative: Organic Fertilizer For Ganesh Idol Donors
In a unique effort to promote eco-friendly practices, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched an initiative to reward citizens who donate their Ganesh idols to the corporation. This initiative aims to encourage responsible disposal of Ganesh idols and promote sustainable gardening practices.
As part of this initiative, 15,000 citizens who participate in the idol donation program will receive a 3-kg bag of organic fertilizer. “We want to encourage citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices. This fertilizer, prepared from Nirmalya collected during Ganpati immersion, will help reduce waste and promote organic gardening,” said Sandeep Kadam, Deputy Commissioner, Solid Waste Management.
The organic fertilizer will be prepared at Pashan Lake using Nirmalya collected during Ganpati immersion. PMC has collaborated with social organizations to make this initiative a success. Additionally, PMC has instructed officials to maintain cleanliness in three shifts during Ganeshotsav, prohibiting open garbage disposal.
To further support cleanliness, 400 mobile toilets will be strategically placed, and ghats will be cleaned for immersion. “This initiative promotes a clean and green Pune. We urge citizens to participate in the idol donation program and support our cleanliness drive,” added Kadam.
With this innovative initiative, PMC sets an example for sustainable waste management and eco-friendly practices. By encouraging citizens to adopt environmentally responsible habits, Pune can move closer to becoming a cleaner and greener city.
