Pimpri-Chinchwad, February 8, 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) carried out a massive demolition drive in the Kudalwaadi area of Chikhali, removing 222 illegal constructions. The PCMC’s Building Permission and Unauthorized Construction Control Department, along with multiple regional action teams, demolished illegal structures covering 1.83 million square feet. This joint operation was conducted with the assistance of the police department under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, both of whom visited the site and supervised the action.

  • – 180 Maharashtra Security Force personnel
  • – 600 police officers and laborers
  • – 16 poclains, 8 JCBs, 1 crane, and 4 cutters
  • – 3 fire engines and 2 ambulances for emergency support

Officials from the police department and the electricity board were also present to ensure smooth execution. Additional Police Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, along with Deputy Commissioners Swapna Gore, Dr. Shivaji Pawar, Bapu Bangar, Sandeep Doifode, and Vivek Patil, provided security cover in the area.

Why Was The Action Taken?

According to PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, these illegal constructions were built on reserved land meant for planned urban development and public amenities. The Kudalwaadi area had witnessed multiple fire incidents and traffic congestion issues due to unauthorized businesses operating without safety measures. Some of these establishments were found discharging polluted water directly into the river, causing severe water and air pollution in violation of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) regulations and labor laws.

“Strict action was necessary to restore law and order. PCMC will continue such demolition drives against unauthorized constructions in the future,” said Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil added, “While providing civic amenities, ensuring public safety is equally important. The illegal structures in Kudalwaadi posed a high fire risk, which is why action was taken.”
