Pune News: Bebadohol Gram Panchayat raises serious concerns over Ganga Paper Mill’s Pollution causing damage to farmlands, seeks help from NGT
Bebadohol, Pune, October 14, 2024 – The Bebadohol Gram Panchayat has raised serious concerns about Ganga Paper Mill, accusing the mill of discharging polluted water into nearby water bodies, causing extensive damage to crops and the local environment. For the past three years, the local body and residents have lodged multiple complaints on a regular basis regarding the mill’s excessive industrial effluent discharge, which has significantly harmed agricultural lands and polluted the Pavana River.
Rakesh Ghare, a resident of Bebadohol, expressed his frustration, stating, “This pollution has resulted in major losses to crops. The water is being discharged directly into the Pavana River, significantly polluting it. It is disturbing to see that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has taken no action, despite years of complaints from the local community and bodies.”
There is growing suspicion that some authorities may be hand in glove with the paper mill, as the lack of action from regulatory bodies suggests possible collusion. This has raised concerns about transparency and accountability within local authorities.
The affected farmers and residents are now requesting the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to take **suo moto** action to address this environmental violation. They are urging for immediate intervention to stop further damage, hold responsible parties accountable, and ensure compensation for the losses incurred by local farmers.
Further updates will be shared as the situation develops.
