A Ganesh mandal in Balajinagar, Pune, has been booked for violating noise pollution regulations during Ganesh celebrations. Shivtirtha Mitra Mandal allegedly used loudspeakers without prior permission, exceeding volume limits and causing a public nuisance on September 17, 2024. The incident has sparked concerns over noise pollution during festivals in the city.

“We have registered a case against the mandal for exceeding sound limits and will take further action as per procedure,” said Police Inspector H.C. Raut. The police have taken swift action against the mandal, sending a strong message to other potential violators.

The complaint, filed by Bablu Dattatraya Bhise, alleged that the mandal refused to comply with noise regulations despite prior warnings, leading to disturbance and danger for people in the area. “The mandal’s president and loudspeaker driver showed complete disregard for the law and citizens’ well-being,” Bhise stated.

The case has been registered under various sections, including the Indian Penal Code, Environment (Protection) Act 1986, Maharashtra Police Act, and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules 2000. Specifically, the sections involved are 223, 285, 289, 292, and 293 of the IPC, Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, and Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Maharashtra Police Act. A case has been registered at Sahakar Nagar police station.
