Pune: The Poona Parsee Panchayat has raised concerns over alleged illegal encroachment on its ancestral land at Survey No. 603, Lullanagar. Private individuals, identified as members of the Lulla family, have reportedly erected poles and tin sheets to stake an unauthorized claim on the property. In its letter the Panchayat has stated that The Poona Parsee Panchayat Trust is the legal owner and custodian of land bearing Survey No. 603, measuring about 8 and 1/2 acre, situated in Pune. An 2 B/2025, during morning hours, we have received knowledge on personnel visits, that the Lulla family have attempted unlawful encroachment upon and trespassed on a portion of approximately 1/2 acre of this land from West side by fixing poles in our portion of land in our possession duly demarcated with intent to commence work of construction . Such acts and conduct of the Lulla family are not only illegal but also in blatant violation of property laws and the rights of the Trust.

According to Adv. Marazban Irani, Chairman Trustee of the Poona Parsee Panchayat, this act is not just a land grab but an attack on the legacy of Zoroastrian forebears who dedicated the land for the welfare of their community. Despite previous efforts to protect this historic property, the small numbers of the Parsi community and lack of institutional support continue to pose challenges in safeguarding their heritage.

The Poona Parsee Panchayat has initiated legal action, seeking a stay order to halt further encroachment. Complaints have been lodged with the Commissioner of Police, Wanowrie Police Station, and PMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department, urging swift intervention.

The Panchayat remains resolute in its fight to preserve and protect this ancestral land. However, they emphasize that collective community support and timely action from authorities are crucial in preventing further encroachments and ensuring justice.
