Despite significant development in residential housing complexes in Wakad and Tathawade over the past 12 years, the area has been experiencing persistent power outages for the last five years. Sachin Londhe, Vice Chairman, of the Pimpri Chinchwad Co-operative Housing Society Federation, along with his colleagues, has been engaging in discussions with MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) for many years to resolve this issue. However, the power outages have resumed after a brief respite.

According to the MSEDCL, the current power interruptions are caused by the rainy season moisture affecting the electrical infrastructure. To mitigate this, it is necessary to reduce the voltage from 22 kV to 11 kV, said Londhe, who has been interacting with the power firm authorities extensively.

The residents of the medium and large housing complexes, many of whom are IT employees, are urging MSEDCL to address this issue promptly. Due to daily power outages lasting 3-4 hours, residents who have the option to work from home are often forced to commute to their offices. This has resulted in significant frustration among thousands of residents, who are now spending between ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 daily on diesel generators to cope with the power cuts.
