Pune News: Three-Phase River Rejuvenation Project Launched For Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula-Mutha: Uday Samant
Mumbai, July 3: The government has decided to implement a river rejuvenation project in three phases to clean and restore major rivers in the state. These projects aim to reduce pollution and ensure the complete purification of Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula-Mutha rivers in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, and surrounding areas, Industry Minister Uday Samant informed.
Legislative Council member Uma Khapre raised a question regarding the completion of the rejuvenation projects for Pavana, Mula, and Indrayani rivers by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Member Sachin Ahir also posed supplementary questions.
Providing further details, Minister Samant said that the Indrayani and Pavana river projects under PMRDA will cost ₹671 crore, of which 60% funding will come from the central government and 40% from PMRDA. The Pavana river project alone is estimated at ₹218 crore, with a similar 60:40 funding split between the central government and local bodies.
Additionally, the CETP project under MIDC will cost between ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 crore and is aimed at treating industrial wastewater from the MIDC area.
The process of securing a loan for the entire project from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) is underway and a proposal has been submitted. Minister Samant also stated that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently announced at a program in Alandi that the rejuvenation of Indrayani and Pavana rivers will be carried out “from origin to confluence.” He added that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will soon chair a meeting of all three concerned departments.
