Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Hunt For Duo Accused Of Defrauding Lawyer And Others Of ₹ 57.57 Lakh
The Pimpri Chinchwad police are on the hunt for two men who allegedly defrauded a 66-year-old lawyer and his two sons of Rs 57.57 lakh between February 2023 and February 2024. The suspects promised a 5% monthly profit on investments with their share trading firm. Investigations reveal that over 50 additional victims, including the lawyer’s relatives and friends, were also deceived by the same scheme.
The lawyer was introduced to the suspects by one of his students in January 2022. The duo claimed to have extensive experience in share trading and offered a 5% monthly return on investments. Initially, the lawyer saw consistent returns and even recommended the scheme to his relatives and friends.
However, after a few months, the suspects stopped paying profits. Despite several attempts to recover the money, one of the suspects vanished abroad, while the other remains at large. The lawyer, who had invested his retirement funds, eventually filed a complaint against the duo.
The lawyer described the main suspect as a smooth talker who invited them abroad, promising repayment.
According to a police officer from the Wakad police station, the fraudsters collected over Rs 2 crore from all victims. The main suspect has reportedly fled the country, while his accomplice is from another state. Police are actively investigating the case.
To date, no repayment has been made. The investigation into the case continues as authorities seek to track down the fugitives.
