Pune, May 27, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on contractor Vishal Jain of the Ranawat Group for allegedly discharging wastewater from a construction site directly into a stormwater drainage chamber in Raviwar Peth.

According to an official statement issued by the Kasba-Vishrambaug Ward Office, civic officials found that wastewater from an under-construction project near Seven Love Chowk and Phuge Pen Shop was being released into the stormwater drainage system through unauthorised means.

PMC officials said the action followed a complaint received by the department regarding the illegal discharge. A team from the ward office conducted an on-site inspection and reportedly confirmed that untreated wastewater from the construction site was flowing into the stormwater chamber.

The civic body stated that the release of slurry, debris and untreated wastewater into stormwater drains can lead to blockages and increase the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season.

Following the inspection, the ward office imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on the contractor and builder for violating environmental and civic regulations. The PMC has also warned that stricter legal and criminal action may be initiated if similar violations are repeated in the future.

The municipal administration appealed to builders, contractors and citizens not to dispose of construction waste or wastewater into stormwater drains, stating that such practices put additional pressure on Pune’s drainage infrastructure, especially during heavy rains.
