Pune, June 9, 2026: The land acquisition process for the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport at Purandar has made significant progress, with authorities securing consent for more than 60 percent of the land required for the project. District officials said compensation amounting to nearly ₹900 crore has already been disbursed to participating landowners.

According to District Collector Jitendra Dudi, the acquisition drive commenced on May 7, and the administration has so far received consent affidavits covering 1,837 acres. The airport project requires approximately 3,000 acres of land, and the response from farmers has been encouraging.

The proposed greenfield airport is planned across seven villages in Purandar taluka and will require around 1,216 hectares of land. During the preliminary survey phase, a large majority of affected landowners had indicated their willingness to participate in the acquisition process.

The Maharashtra government has fixed the compensation rate at ₹1.61 crore per acre. The overall land acquisition exercise is expected to cost nearly ₹6,000 crore. To facilitate payments, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has arranged funding through borrowings and has already released an initial installment to the district administration.

Officials said compensation amounts are being transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts, helping build confidence among landowners and accelerating the acquisition process. The administration has also been conducting discussions with farmers to resolve compensation-related concerns and avoid prolonged legal disputes.

Among the villages contributing land for the project, Pargaon has recorded the highest level of participation, followed by Ekhatpur, Khanwadi, Vanpuri, Kumbharvalan, Munjawadi, and Udachiwadi.

With the deadline for submitting consent documents approaching, officials expect additional landowners to join the process in the coming days. The Purandar airport project is considered one of the most important infrastructure initiatives in the Pune region and is expected to strengthen air connectivity, attract investment, and support long-term economic development.
