Pune: Residents Raise Alarm Over Encroachments And Beggar Menace On Jagtap Chowk–Savidhan Chowk Stretch In Wanowrie.
Pune, February 25, 2026: Residents from south Pune have raised concerns over the growing presence of beggars and alleged encroachments along the stretch between Jagtap Chowk and Savidhan Chowk in Wanowrie, claiming the situation has turned the once well-maintained locality into a nuisance-prone zone.
According to locals, several individuals have been occupying footpaths and roadside areas, hanging clothes on railings and using pedestrian pathways as living spaces. Residents allege that the encroachments have made it difficult to walk freely, forcing pedestrians onto busy roads and creating safety hazards.
Citizens have also expressed disappointment over the lack of action from elected representatives, stating that despite voting in municipal elections, the issue remains unaddressed. Some residents have suggested that authorities should either rehabilitate the individuals at designated shelters or take steps to clear public spaces to restore order.
Long-time residents claim the area, once known for its greenery and civic pride, has deteriorated over the years, with tree loss and unplanned developments adding to their concerns. Property owners argue that high real estate investments in the locality warrant better civic management and urban planning.
Residents have urged authorities to intervene promptly and implement measures to restore cleanliness, pedestrian safety and the overall quality of life in the area.
